The Christening Gown

Tomorrow our granddaughter Colby Jane will be dedicated to the Lord. She  is our 10th grandchild. Although she is only three months old, she is already such a blessing to our family, just as the other 9 have been.
This is the gown she will wear. It was made by my sister Patricia 28 years ago for our daughter Elizabeth, Colby Jane's mother.
Since then, seven other grandchildren have worn this gown: Rachel, Lauren, Christopher, Holt, Lacey, and Millie.
Each time I get the gown out, wash it and iron ever so carefully, I think about each of these children, what each one means to me, how much I love them and daydream a little bit about their futures. Then I say a little prayer for each one.
I love the dedication ceremony and it's significance in our family. For us, it is declaring before our friends and family to raise the child in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, as well as vowing to provide all the necessary things for their well being, to encourage their faith and acceptance of Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and to live a just life before the child.
One other thing I always think about as I iron this lovely gown, "I wonder who will wear it next"?
